Get Easy '70s-Inspired Curls from Pureology

From big brimmed hats to wide-leg trousers to orange lipstick, there’s no doubt that the ’70s are back in a big way. At the recent Gorgeous and Green benefit in San Francisco, which was sponsored by Global Green USA, an Eco-Chic Fashion show displayed designs from top sustainable designers along with this easy retro hairstyle. Created by Pureology stylist Natasha Sunshine and Sherilynn Smart, it lends a groovy ’70s twist to classic ’40s pinup-girl glamour. “The vision was to juxtapose the elegant, sustainable designs with an edgy theme using many different curling irons,” said Sunshine, a stylist at Byu-ti Hair Therapy in Lafayette, California. Here’s how to get it.

Start with hair that’s clean and dry.

Heat two small curling irons, one slightly smaller than the other.

Starting at the nape of the neck, spray one-inch sections of hair with Pureology ColourStylist FortifyingHeatSpray to protect it from styling damage, then curl with the smaller curling iron.

Continue until all the hair at the nape is curled.

Work your way up the rest of your head in one-inch sections with the larger curling iron. Leave at least two inches of roots hear your part line straight.

Put long clips in place at the point of separation between curl and straight and let hair sit for fifteen minutes.

Apply an all-over mist of ColourStylist StrengtheningControl Zero Dulling Hairspray to keep curls intact.

Create a polishing serum by combining a small amount of ColourStylist CuticlePolisher with a few sprays of ColourStylist RadianceAmplifier and, from the bottom up, run your fingers through your hair, teasing to break up the curls and create volume.

Give a final mist of hairspray and you’re all set!
