Georgia Chopsticks in Georgia produces two million chopsticks a day. A large bulk goes to China, though the company also provides the utensils to Japan, Korea and the US.
The shortage in China is due to a lack of wood to make the chopsticks, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Georgia Chopsticks founder Jae Lee said: "When I opened this business, the reaction from my friends and family was, 'are you crazy?' But we've shown you can make something happen."
The chopsticks, made from poplar and sweetgum trees, cost less than a penny to produce and are labelled with the words 'Made in USA'.
China makes 63 billion pairs of chopsticks each year.
