Local and overseas celebrities come together next month for "The Silver Tribute Charity Night" to lend their weight to a good cause and help the needy elderly

Organised by SMRT in its first TV fundraising show, The Silver Tribute Charity Night aims to create awareness of the plight of needy elderly and raise funds to support eight Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs) that forms this year's beneficiaries.

The three-hour live show will see a bevy of local and foreign artistes take to the stage with songs and special performances to entertain the elderly and lend a hand to call for donations from the audience and viewers.

Also lending their glamour and star appeal at the inaugural charity show will be evergreen artistes from Taiwan like Lin Hui Ping, Lin Shu Rong, Luo Shi Feng, Frankie Kao, Wan Fang, and Chen Mei Feng.

Hosted by Guo Liang and Quan Yi Fong, the night will be themed "Familiar Tunes and Starry Glamour" and is set to showcase performances such as nostalgic songs by veteran singers, Teochew Opera by Pornsak and his father, a special duet by Olivia Ong and Jesseca Liu, as well as an exciting African Drum routine and a mysterious "Egg Dance" segment by MediaCorp artistes.

At the press meet yesterday morning, actress/host Vivian Lai, who is part of the African Drum band tasked to perform together with 18 elderly performers from "The Kallang CC Drumming Circle", told xinmsn that "practising the drums is a good form of exercise for losing the fat on my arms".

Vivian added, "Everyone will grow old; so by doing this charity, it's also a way of helping ourselves." The bubbly one also let on that the band members, consisting of Kym Ng, Michelle Chia, Adam Chen, Yuan Shuai, Alan Tern and herself, share a great chemistry although "Kym is always out of rhythm".

It seems Vivian's natural funniness is unstoppable as Yuan Shuai shared, "We're always looking at Vivian during rehearsals because she's always so funny in her drumming actions."
