Baek Ji Young on leaving ‘I Am A Singer’ for her comeback album

On May 19th, singer Baek Ji Young held a showcase to commemorate the release of her eighth album at Convention Heights in Nonhyundong, Seoul. On this day, Baek Ji Young also held a press conference, though which she revealed why she decided to step down from MBC’s “I Am a Singer“.

She stated, “You will know if you ask any of the singers on ‘I Am a Singer’, but there is definitely a burden about being eliminated. However, the appeal of performing on stage was also very strong, so truthfully, I worried a lot about leaving the show.”

She added, “I think it would have been too hard to promote my album, prepare for my showcase, and participate in ‘I Am a Singer’ all at the same time. Even though Producer Shin Jung Soo discouraged me from stepping down, that is what I decided and the production crew respected my decision. But, even now, when watching ’I Am a Singer’, I sometimes think, ‘I should have kept going’.”

When receiving the question “After you finish promoting your 8th album, if ‘I Am a Singer’ asks you to join again, do you have any thoughts about rejoining?”, Baek Ji Young confidently replied, “I do.”

Baek Ji Young officially released her eighth album with the title song “Average“. “Average” is a sad ballad song written by the popular composer Bang Shi Hyuk.
