Rookie girl group Dal Shabet has a new nickname to add to their list, as they’re now known as the ‘cup girls.’ Ever since their “Supa Dupa Diva” promotions, the girls have been headlining for various injuries and health issues. To take care of their health, the girls have picked up cupping therapy, a type of therapeutic technique used in traditional Oriental medicine.
For those of us who’ve never heard of ‘cupping therapy’, it involves placing vacuum-sealed containers on the skin to draw out deeper internal healing.
Ga Eun revealed, “Jiyul unni does it for me after we complete our schedules for the day. It feels refreshing, and I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better thanks to it.”
Jiyeul added, “My mother is familiar with cupping treatments and hand acupuncture, so I learned how to do it naturally. I first performed the cupping treatments for the members whenever they weren’t feeling well.. Now they ask me to do it the minute we come home from our schedules. You can tell what kind of condition the body is because the color of the skin near problem areas look different.”
Unfortunately, the treatment also comes with consequences. The cupping treatment leaves visible bruise-like marks, and since the girls’ stage outfits consists of short clothing, it shows right through.
Jiyul continued, “Clothing that shows our backs exposed the cupping marks. In case people thought weird of it, we’d put foundation and makeup on our backs.” Laughing, she stated, “Unfortunately, we sweat the makeup off, so people could see the marks in plain sight.”
